Wroughton Junior School

Sports Premium

Vision

At Wroughton Junior School, we believe that Physical Education and Sport plays a vital role in enabling us to achieve to our full potential, both in the classroom and on the sports field. We build trust and friendship with each other when we play in teams; we develop our self-confidence and resilience when we finally master various skills. Playing sport develops our thinking skills as we strive to outwit our opponent. We improve our fitness and our knowledge and understanding of what it means to be healthy. Sport teaches us that there are boundaries in life and we compete fairly following accepted rules and showing excellent sportsmanship, both when we win and also when we lose. We participate to the best of our ability respecting our opponents and knowing that our contribution is not only for ourselves, but also for the greater good of our team.

We love PE and sport because...

“we all have different strengths. Even though my sister could always thrash me at tennis, she could NEVER beat me in a swimming race!”

“it’s fun learning different things and it’s good for your well-being.”
“it sheds a new light on the children I teach. It gives those children who struggle to achieve in the classroom a chance to shine. We always have fun and it's such a joy to see all of their smiling faces.”

“it keeps me healthy and strong.”

Our aspiration is that by the time our children are ready to leave us they have developed a love of sport, the physical literacy skills and confidence to be able to take part in any sport they wish and a passion for life long sport participation.

Following the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games, the Government is investing to improve the provision of P.E. and sport in primary schools.

The funding is designed to impact upon:

  • achievement in P.E. lessons
  • an increased involvement in competitive school sport
  • personal health and well-being
  • improved attitudes and behaviour towards learning

At Wroughton Junior School, we are committed to ensuring our pupils enjoy sports and games activities and understand the importance of being active and having a healthy lifestyle.

The school will measure the impact of the funding at the end of each academic year through:

  • pupil interviews
  • staff skills audits
  • analysis of attendance at clubs
  • observation of P.E. lessons

Swimming - As of 2018 schools are now required to publish information on the percentage of Yr 6 pupils who have met the Swimming and Water Safety requirements within the PE National Curriculum. Every pupil will have the opportunity to swim during their time at WPF - please see our swimming provision as outlined in the letter below. Also attached is a link for parents giving further information about the swimming programme that is followed.
