SUPPORTING LEARNING AT HOME

Reading

Reading Journals

Reading is vital to a child's success across the whole curriculum, not just English. At home, it is important to continue to develop the love for reading and build their reading fluency.  We recommend reading at regularly as well as some time with an adult for informal book talk.

The reading journal helps children to engage with their reading on a personal level and can help to direct an informal conversation with your child about their reading. To find out about the reading journals, and how you can fill them in, please click on the pictures below for a presentation. The presentation includes some fantastic examples from our children.

Barrington Stoke Books

In our library, you will find a wide range of Barrington Stoke books which are aimed at making reading accessible for all, especially those with dyslexia. Anyone can choose these books from our library. If you want to know more, please speak to your class teacher.

Reading Recommendations

Click on the links below for recommendations of the top 50 recommend reads for the age group. These are updated regularly with new releases.

These reading roads are set by genre of books such as animals or mystery books. As you move through the road the books become more challenging.

Sometimes we get stuck on one author! Its easily done when they write such good books. These posters can help you to branch out  to other similar authors.

Writing

Spellings

Here you will find the spelling rules the children will learn in Year 3.   Spelling word lists will be sent home that reflect the rules learnt each term. It is best for children to focus on applying the rule to a range of words as well as those on the list.  You will also find some activities that you can use at home to help with learning spellings.

Year 6 programme of spelling

To help support you with learning spellings at home, here are some strategies you can use to help.
